Southside Dental Care New Patient Assessment
Maintaining your oral
health is more than just treating dental problems as they occur.
Dental Care we believe prevention is key and the most successful way to prevent
is to monitor through regular check-ups.
A Southside Dental Care New Patient
Assessment is a more thorough and detailed examination than a routine check-up,
which allows us to determine your needs and to evaluate and plan for your
long-term oral health care. Our goal is to make you sure you enjoy a happy,
healthy beautiful smile.
A Southside Dental Care
New Patient Assessment is an essential component in Preventive Dentistry. The Assessment
or exam is usually carried out in your initial visit to the practice and by
examining every aspect of your oral health, aims to provide a baseline that we
use to lay the groundwork for any future recommendations and treatment plans.
Before your exam, you will
be asked about your medical & dental history, any current or previous complaints
and what your smile goals are – healthier, whiter, straighter?
Southside Dental Care New
Patient Assessment includes:
Tooth by Tooth Exam – each tooth is examined for chips or cracks that may potentially
cause pain. We will check existing fillings and restorations for any weakening.
We will analyze the condition of your tooth enamel and determine whether your
teeth are at risk of developing cavities.
Periodontal Exam – we will examine the condition of your gums and determine if any
disease is present. The early stages of gum disease (periodontal
disease) are reversible, so identifying any problems early on will help us
offer you treatment options aimed at maintaining your gum health. If left
untreated, periodontal disease may result in tooth loss, along with a host of
other oral and health conditions.
Oral Cancer Screening – an oral cancer screening is a quick and painless
exam that can save your life. When detected and treated in the early stages,
there is a higher chance of recovery. During our screening, we will examine the
soft tissue in your mouth and ensure that you’re healthy and cancer-free. Early
detection is the key to experiencing a fortunate outcome.
– This is to determine the health of your occlusion (bite). A bad bite may
result in conditions such as loose teeth, excessive tooth wear, or a painful
condition known as TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder. Correcting your
occlusion will help treat these conditions and alleviate any symptoms
associated with them, along with lowering your risk of developing potential
Aesthetic Evaluation – We will evaluate your smile and consider any cosmetic dentistry
services you may need including, restoring missing teeth, teeth whitening,
correcting crooked or misaligned teeth and more. We are here to help you
achieve the smile you’ve been dreaming off.
Digital X-rays -
There are many conditions and potential problems in areas that we can’t see
during our comprehensive dental exam. Intra-oral X-rays will help identify and
diagnose any areas of concern. We will be able to detect tooth decay, bone
loss, cysts, or any other abnormalities. X-rays provide a wealth of information
that we use to design preventative and restorative treatments.
Screening - The CALCIVIS
imaging system is brand new technology developed in
Scotland, designed to transform preventive dentistry with a revolutionary new
biotechnology-based approach. The
CALCIVIS imaging System enables us to see if there are any early signs of decay
that may not be visible with the naked eye. The first stage of decay is when
minerals (such as calcium) is lost from the tooth surface – sometimes there is visible damage to
the tooth, but sometimes there isn’t. The imaging device sprays a protein
liquid on to the surface of the tooth. This protein reacts with any calcium
being lost from the tooth and presents as a flash of light on the image. Early detection
of calcium loss allows us to start a calcium healing programme to help prevent
the need for a filling. The CALCIVIS imaging system enables us to see that
which is not normally visible.
