Having a clean mouth is important. Not only is it healthy but it gives you fresher breath, a nicer smile and more confidence.
Every time you eat food the bacteria that live in your mouth use it to produce a sticky film that we call plaque. Plaque is what causes tooth decay and gum disease. If you want more information about either of these diseases please feel free to speak to one of our team.
Tooth brushing
You should brush your teeth regularly after meals as it removes food particles and plaque. We recommend using a fluoride containing toothpaste as fluoride is known to strengthen teeth. Ask your dentist to recommend the best toothbrush and toothpaste for you. Remember toothbrushes wear out and should be replaced every 3 – 4 months.
Flossing
Toothbrushing alone cannot reach all surfaces of your teeth and so you also need to floss regularly. If you haven’t flossed before it can be a bit tricky to begin with but our team will give you all the help you need to master the technique.
Mouthwashes
Mouthwashes freshen breath and some also help fight tooth decay and gum disease. Please ask our dentists to recommend the right mouthwash for you.
Routine examinations
A good dental routine at home should always be accompanied by regular six-month dental examinations and thorough cleans. Please feel free to bring your children to visit us as soon as they get their first tooth. You will not be charged for this and it encourages your child to be comfortable with dental treatment in the future. |
